Pupils in dash to the chippy

There the owner has created a special menu just for them. He is serving up delights like chips in a pitta, sausage roll and chips, and kebab and chips, all for £1 – undercutting the price of a school dinner which costs £1.65.
Local MP Tom Watson said today he would be taking up the matter with the LEA.
He said: “Clearly I am not the one to lecture people on their eating habits but serious lessons must be learned on how we will deal with pupils during the lunch hour.
“Obviously our goal should always be to get pupils to eat healthily at lunchtimes, but this has clearly highlighted a problem that was probably happening at other schools in the borough.”
Sandwell Council has been campaigning for pupils to eat healthy meals in a bid to improve their ability to concentrate better and was already working on new style school meals before the nationwide campaign was launched by celebrity cook Jamie Oliver.
But it seems that a lot of youngsters at the school in Hydes Road still prefer the old-style fatty foods.
Chip shop owner Kam Kler, pictured, said he had devised the cheap menu which he has called the Wodensborough School Special.
He said: “The kids said they didn’t like the school meals and so we pitched the menu at a price suitable for them. For £1 they can get a good meal and they still have enough money left for a can of pop.”
Kam, who lives in Wolverhampton, said a lot of adults had said what he was doing was a good idea.
“We can’t force them to eat from our menu,” he said.
