Early date for mum’s treatment

Monday 9th October 2006, 9:01PM BST.

Jackie Jennings, aged 41, hopes to fly out on November 25.

The 41-year-old mother-of-one was due to go to the USA on January 2 for life-saving proton beam therapy at a specialist hospital at a cost of £100,000.

The Wyre Forest Primary Care Trust has agreed funding of £75,000 and an appeal was launched by rock legend Robert Plant last month to raise the final £25,000.

A benefit concert by the former Led Zeppelin front man is predicted to sell out in minutes when tickets go on sale at the town hall on October 19.

Around £10,000 from the gig will go towards the appeal.

On Saturday night a benefit gig featuring the band Slowburner at the Queens Head, Wolverley raised hundreds of pounds for the cause.

And on November 3, The Stalks and Sons of Beaches will play Jacksons pub in Marlpool Lane with tickets priced £5 each.

Jackie had already raised £6,000 herself and she grabbed the chance to go to Boston early when doctors offered her the chance.

She will have two months of intensive treatment which has a 95 to 98 per cent success rate.
