Relief as Moore fears ease
Wednesday 4th October 2006, 11:49PM BST.
But the Villa boss today revealed that the 20 year old should be available again early in the New Year.
“It’s good news about Luke. He definitely needs an operation, but he should only be out for three months, and if that’s the case that would be really great – phenomenal,” said O’Neill.
“If we get to the end of January and he is fit again it would be marvellous. He is a young lad and he should heal relatively quickly. Luke needs an operation and that’s going to proceed as soon as possible.”
Moore injured his shoulder again shortly before half-time of Saturday’s 1-1 draw at champion’s Chelsea.
It was at least the third time this season that the Villa youngster has dislocated his shoulder – only this time “it would not pop back in”.
New signing Chris Sutton today backed Villa to continue their impressive start to the season under O’Neill.
The 33-year-old former Celtic striker has penned a deal until the end of the season and is relishing the chance of extending his Premiership career.
Sutton has been training on his own but manager O’Neill was keen to tie the free agent to Villa with other clubs showing interest.
“It’s nice to be back with Martin, Steve Walford and John Robertson and I’m looking forward to getting started and stuck into training,” said Sutton.
“I’ve known the three of them for five years at Celtic and I know the way they work, so I’m not really surprised they’ve started so well here at Villa.
“It’s been a good start for Villa and hopefully we can continue that throughout the season. It’s good to have points on the board.”
