The Campaign Against The Crown House (Catch) claims leaseholders have been dragging their feet about either demolishing or revamping the building.

Catch claims the former Inland Revenue building is a “blot on the landscape” and spoiling the landscape of the Bull Ring, a focal point of the town centre.

Spokeswoman Margaret Bradley said: “It really is so ugly and that is why it was classed as the fourth ugliest building in the country.

“It really should be demolished as it is a terrible building and of no architectural value.

“The leaseholders say they are going to carry out some improvements but we have not been told what they plan or when this will happen.

“It is no longer a public building and leaseholders Land Securities Trillium are responsible for all the Department of Work and Pensions buildings across the country.”

Kidderminster Town Centre Partnership chairman Peter Picken said: “It is disappointing that we were led to believe the building was going to be cleaned. I think some work may have been carried out and it is slightly less dreary but it is what it is, a 1960s-style building that does not fit with today’s architecture.

“It should be demolished and the site redeveloped but someone would have to meet the bill and pay for this.”

Last December Crown House was voted the fourth ugliest building by viewers of the television series Demolition.

A spokesman for Land Securities Trillium was contacted but was not available to comment.
