The district council has agreed to spend the cash on creating six sparkling new ladies loos at the Riverside in Stourport and revamping the ageing facilities in Brinton Park in Kidderminster.

It comes a week after a visitor survey shamed Kidderminster for having the worst public toilets in the county.

But the district council says the money was allocated for improvements earlier in the year.

Councillors are set to approve the spending at Thursday’s cabinet meeting at Duke House.

Councillor Marcus Hart, cabinet member for commercial services, will recommend £90,530 being spent on erecting six new ladies’ cubicles, an additional baby changing area and seven new wash basins.

The busy summer period has left Stourport feeling the effects of a chronic shortage of ladies’ toilets and it is hoped the extra conveniences will ease waiting times. The men’s toilets were deemed to still be sufficient.

New toilets will be installed at Brinton Park and a new tiled floor will replace the old concrete one at a cost of £5,600.

Cleaning patrols are also set to be stepped up as part of the move.

Work is set to start later this year and be completed by the new year.

Kidderminster’s toilets were ranked bottom in a visitor survey of services across 13 towns in Worcestershire.

The Heart of England tourist organisation asked 1,600 people what they thought and those in the town rated an average of 2.97 out of five, the lowest score recorded. Councillor Hart said: “The survey related to 2005 when we already knew we had to spend some money.”
