Hospital bosses get £45k rise
Thursday 21st September 2006, 9:42PM BST.
They say that staff will be bitter to learn that managers are now collecting as much as £160,000 a year.
Increases for the nine executive directors represent rises of between seven and 62 per cent, according the hospital’s annual finance report.
Hospital chiefs said the figures were a result of an NHS pay review and changes in responsibility.
The increases contrast with the national pay awards agreed for nurses and doctors of 2.5 and 2.2 per cent which will see a nurses average wage starting at £19,116 next year.
Unison branch secretary Steve Astill said: “It is unfortunate the pay rises are so substantially above the public sector pay awards and it will anger staff.”
The annual report shows that the hospital was in the black by £1.8million in 2005/06 despite costs soaring by £21million.
It does not reveal exact salary figures and instead places them in £5,000 bands.
Records show that medical director Richard Blunt received the biggest rise in pay from between £105,000 and £115,000 to £160,000 and £170,000.
