Girl dragged 20 feet under car

The youngster was hit by a Vauxhall Astra at the crossing outside Morrisons supermarket in Bilston. She was trapped under the vehicle and suffered breathing difficulties because of the pressure of the car on her body.

Her injuries were initially thought to be life-threatening but after being resuscitated in an ambulance, she was today expected to make a full recovery.

Sgt Paul Richards, of the Low Hill road policing unit, has appealed for witnesses to contact him. He said the driver was spoken to at the scene but he was not arrested.
