But he said the “hard working, devoted family man” deserved some credit for volunteering himself to the police although he initially lied to them about what had happened.

Judge Chapman said that Scott, of Lincoln Road, Wednesbury, should not have stepped in front of the taxi but neither should Hussain have driven on.

He added: “The sentence does not in any way reflect the value of his life. That is, and always was, priceless.”

Hussain had denied murder and death by dangerous driving but pleaded scottpoll.jpgguilty to manslaughter at Wolverhampton Crown Court last month.

Hussain, of Grange Road, Wednesbury, accelerated into the 17-year-old as he tried to hail a taxi in Hollyhedge Road, West Bromwich, in the early hours of February 26 after a night out with friends.

The 44-year-old cabbie then sped away, dragging the teenager through six streets before his body finally fell free.
