Busiest man in showbiz? It can only be our Pete

Peter Andre talks TV, music, fatherhood and the hole in his heart that will never heal.

He lives a strange existence. There are not many people whose days are filled with painting and decorating and nights performing in front of thousands of screaming women.

There's also the small matter of being a father of two, having another one on the way, running a charity and having Jordan as an ex-wife. Shudder.

But Peter Andre thrives on the chaos of it all. If he's busy, he's happy.

And things have never been as busy as they are now. This year will bring a new tour, a new-and-improved TV career and a new baby.

"I like to do lots of different things in one day," the 40-year-old tells Weekend. "Although right now I'm actually enjoying sitting in front of the TV eating chocolate."

The Aussie pop star is talking to us ahead of his first major UK tour in two years. As well as visiting Birmingham, the show will also be stopping at the world-renowned Royal Albert Hall in London. Not too shabby.

"I cannot wait to get back out on the road again," he says, promising to perform all the hits including Mysterious Girl and Behind Closed Doors. "Everyone knows that touring is my absolute favourite thing and I am so lucky that I get to do it all over again in 2014.

"I feel really great about the next tour – we've changed it so much from last time. I'm really focussed on the musicianship this time around, getting the best musicians, backing singers, mixing things up with horns.

"We're all going to be suited and booted and bringing a different sort of vibe to things. You know when The Eagles performed Hotel California and they were just jamming with their guitars and bongos? It's going to be like that. More acoustic. It's going to be a great show."

He's particularly looking forward to coming back to the Midlands after the disappointment of having his most recent Telford gig cancelled. He was due to perform at the International Centre last September 27 but the gig was cancelled due to contractual reasons. More than 1,000 fans had already spent between £18 and £25 on tickets for the concert, which would have seen him supported by former X Factor and Celebrity Big Brother star Rylan Clark.

Peter Andre and girlfriend Emily MacDonagh

"Ah, you know what, I can't wait to come up to the Midlands and give a great performance," he says wistfully. "I promise you, I won't disappoint with this show."

By the time the new tour rolls around, Andre will be a new dad.

His girlfriend, 24-year-old medical student Emily MacDonagh, is due to give birth next month. Peter, who has revealed he will one day propose to Emily, already has two children with ex-wife Katie Price, Junior, eight, and Princess, six.

But you knew all that already didn't you? We all do. Pick up any magazine or switch on his ITV2 reality show, My Life and there it all is.

"The excitement is definitely building in the Andre house about the new baby," he chuckles. "We all can't stop smiling. The kids are so excited it's unreal. 2014 is going to be a great year.

"I'm only on the road for four weeks with the tour so I'm just going to have to balance things and make it all work.

"Somehow, despite being so busy, my work and family life have sort of settled down into a patten. It works."

Another thing he's managed to work into the mix is his charity the Peter Andre Foundation, which supports Cancer Research UK. It has the ambitious aim of raising £500,000 a year to help fund the Cancer Awareness Roadshow, which gets information about the disease out to people in their own communities.

The foundation was put together after the Andre family lost Pete's brother, Andrew, to kidney cancer a year ago and were then flooded with offers of support from loyal fans.

"My fans have supported me through so much, through whatever's going on in my life. Ask anyone who knows me and they'll tell you I'm always saying how grateful I am for their support," he explains.

"We do have ambitious targets for the foundation but the British public are so so generous at giving to these causes I'm confident we'll hit them.

"It's going really really well. We need to realise that all of us together can change things – if we all fight against cancer, there can be great end results."

Despite all of the charity's good work, the loss of Andrew remains bitterly painful for Peter.

"There is a hole in my heart," he says. "It is something me and my family will never recover from but we have to make life the best it can be. Doing the charity work is great therapy for me, it does help things, but I'll never recover."

So we've covered music, family and charity work and now the other string to his bow is his blossoming television career.

As well as My Life, he also fronts Peter Andre's 60 Minute Makeover and has co-presented the likes of Sunday Scoop and This Morning. All very well and good, he assures us, but music will always be his first love.

"The TV stuff is going great, I'm really enjoying it and am honoured people trust me to do these things like 60 Minute Makeover, Sunday Scoop and This Morning.

"I see it as my day job and I take it very seriously but music will always be my first love. Ask anyone who appears on stage – be it music, theatre, whatever – and they will say the same, it's the best feeling in the world. I love being so close to the audience."

With that, our time is almost up. He is the busiest man in the industry after all. Surely there's no room for anything else in his diary?

"Well, funny you should say that because I'm actually about to do something completely different – I'm launching Kung Fu schools around the country. I'm doing my black belt next year so it's all good."
