Will Young pulls out of Wolverhampton Grand Theatre Cabaret first night

Pop Idol star Will Young pulled out of the opening night of hit musical Cabaret in Wolverhampton due to illness.

Fans were left disappointed after being told that the star would not be performing in last night's opening performance of the hit musical, which is being staged at the city's Grand Theatre.

The star has won huge praise for his leading performance as Emcee in the gritty production and was this year nominated for Best Actor in a Musical at this year's Olivier Awards for the role.

But during last night's show the lead role was filled by understudy Simon Jaymes after the star revealed he was too unwell to perform. He took to social networking site Twitter, writing:

Fans also took to Twitter praising his understudy for an 'amazing' performance.

It is unclear whether Young will perform tonight.
