Theatre-goers were left disappointed when Wet Wet Wet star Marti Pellow cancelled his starring role in Evita at the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre last night due to illness.
Scottish singer Pellow had a throat infection and an understudy took his place.
He had appeared in the matinee performance earlier in the day but was too ill to be in last night’s show.
Pellow plays Che in the hit Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice musical which earlier this week began a 13-day run.
Fans took to Twitter to express their disappointment at his absence.
Michelle Whitehouse said: “Watching Evita waiting for Marti Pellow to come on and he’s sick cant believe it not happy at all.”
Readers on expressandstar.com also said they were disappointed at the news.
June Connolly said: “Shame Marti Pellow didn’t show up tonight, no apology from Grand Theatre.”
A statement on Pellow’s official Facebook page said: “After performing in this afternoon’s matinee. Marti won’t be appearing in the show tonight because he has a throat infection.”
