The former member of the girl band said she felt fine about forging ahead with her solo career away from Cheryl Cole, Kimberley Walsh, Nadine Coyle and Sarah Harding.

She said: "Just because you're in a group, doesn't mean you don't have your own interests.

"You might work with 20 other people and just because you work together every day, it doesn't mean you don't all listen to different music or go to different bars. That's just the way it is."

Asked whether it was a shock when she first didn't have the rest of the band there, she said: "Not really because we had a break in between, and I was 23 when we went on our first little break - that's young.

"I'd already done seven years in the group so when we came back again, it wasn't too unfamiliar."

Nicola Roberts is working with Lil-Lets on Becoming A Teen - a campaign that aims to help reassure and educate young girls on the issues they face when going into their teenage years. For more information and advice please visit www.lil-lets.co.uk/becomingateen or www.youtube.com/becomingateenuk.
