This Morning presenter Ruth Langsford put in a double shift to save the day by stepping in as a last-minute guest host of Loose Women.

Regular panellist Andrea McLean, who revealed she had split from her husband earlier this week, was taken ill prior to the show.

So producers cut short Ruth’s stint on This Morning today – leaving her husband Eamonn Holmes to present alone and allowing her to get along to the Loose Women studio.

She had little over half an hour between one show and the next but managed a change of outfit.

Andrea has been busy with promotional work during the week for her autobiography, and chose to talk about how her marriage had broken down as her book was serialised by a newspaper.

She was among the guests at the National Television Awards on Wednesday night.

Ruth told Loose Women viewers today: “You may be wondering why I’m here and not Andrea. Sadly, Andrea’s been taken unwell this morning – nothing serious, I hasten to add. She’s fine. So the girls kind of whipped me off This Morning and asked me to come and join them.”

Co-host Carol McGiffin shrieked: “I’m so glad you did.”

Ruth joked that Holmes was pleased to see the back of her because he fancies This Morning chef Sally Bee.

“He’s glad to get rid of me,” she said.
