Hairy Bikers delight their Birmingham fans

While hundreds of teenage girls queued to meet One Direction in Birmingham, a different group of people waited to meet two of the country’s most popular chefs.

Just a stone’s throw away from the WH Smith shop where the band signed copies of their new book, Hairy Bikers Si King and Dave Myers were signing copies of their new release.

The chefs were at Waterstone’s in High Street yesterday meeting fans and autographing Mum’s Still Know Best: The Hairy Bikers’ Best-Loved Recipes.

And they were quick to praise one of the Black Country’s favourite dishes: faggots and peas.

“They are great man,” said King.

“What’s great about the UK is it’s full of great cuisine and faggots and peas is just as regional and just as seasonal.

“We love them. It’s homely and it’s also part of people’s identity.”

Among more than 100 people who waited to get their book signed yesterday was 30-year-old administration officer Nina Marriott, who lives off Long Lane in Halesowen.

“I love the Hairy Bikers,” she said.

“They are down to earth and their recipes are really nice.

“It’s what real people want. I was really excited when I heard they were coming and it was lovely meeting them.”

The cookbook brings together more than 100 recipes to accompany the second series of BBC2′s Mums Know Best. It is available on Amazon for £10.
