And within an hour of the tickets going on sale at 9am today, dozens were on sale for almost three times their face value on auction site ebay.

A long queue of music fans snaked back from the Midland Box Office through Queen Square, Wolverhampton, for the event at Weston Park, which this year will feature Beyonce, Kings of Leon, Jessie J, Stereophonics and Emeli Sande.

Among those in the queue were brother and sister Scott Lyons and Janey Barrett, from Coven, who queued through the night.

Mrs Barrett was buying a ticket for her 17-year-old daughter Ashleigh, a pupil at Girls' High School in Wolverhampton.

"We've got no sleep at all but I'd rather queue than have my daughter stay out in the cold," she said.

Tickets for the festival cost up to £185.
