Michelle Dabbs, the 51-year-old owner of family firm Five Star Caterers, based in Dudley, found the pandemic restrictions were preventing her from supplying businesses, parties, wedding and pubs with cobs, scotch eggs and other items.

The family, consisting of Michelle, daughter Jessica Armstrong, aged 17, and sons, Jake Armstrong, aged 18, and Daniel Armstrong, aged 27, decided to bring a little light into people’s lives by offering pub-style food in cob boxes delivered to people’s doorsteps.

They have proved a hit with people clamouring for deliveries of the £7 boxes which contain two cobs, a mini pork pie, scotch egg and sausage roll as well as crisps or pork scratchings.

Michelle said: “We have been in business for 32 years but closed during the first part of lockdown.

“We decided to offer to deliver the cob boxes which have proved a big hit with people who are missing visits to their local pubs and the chance to socialise.

“I think that by delivering the boxes people can get a taste of the life-style they are missing.

“We deliver within a 10-mile radius and have also found a big demand for our afternoon tea deliveries, which have brought a smile to many people’s faces.

“These include cakes, savouries and special teas for £8.

“We have found that many young people are buying the afternoon teas as a treat for their grandparents, who they have been unable to visit.

“We include a personal message with each delivery to lift everyone’s spirits.

“I think you can definitely say we have been making a lot of people smile during lockdown.”
