Marcel Lucont's Whine List, Glee Club, Birmingham - review

Billed as an interactive show, upon entering the Glee Club in Birmingham last night fans were asked to write down a number of their worst experiences for what would become the basis of Marcel Lucont's Whine List.

The French alter-ego of comedian Alexis Dubus, Marcel Lucont appeared at the Glee Club last night following appearances on The John Bishop Show, Set List and Live at the Comedy Store.

Dressed in a dark blue suit, Dubus produces a very convincing Frenchmen who if you weren't aware is a character you wouldn't once question as he clasps a glass of red wine throughout the performance. And I think that it's all the funnier when you forget he's a character at all.

A very dry and humorous performance, Lucont took the concept of a group therapy session to discuss people's worst experiences on holiday, at work and in the bedroom. This bought up hilarious tales exaggerated by the responses of Lucont which is when the show worked at its best. This was interspersed with sections of reading from Marcel's various publications as well as jokes about the UK and Brexit.

The show relies heavily on audience participation however Luconts ability to improvise and run with different topics shows just how excellent his talents as a comedian are.

Tales included eating a guinea pig, being sick on your bosses' roof and some more risqué ones that are clearly not suitable for publication. I hope that my use of French there was clearly noted.

A very well thought out and entertaining evening or should I say 'Une soirée très bien pensée et amusante'.
