DJ Stuart Ojelay celebrates his ‘incredible’ year
Saturday 31st December 2011, 9:07AM GMT.
Cape Town, Ibiza, Brazil, Dubai – and Wolverhampton. Black Country DJ Stuart Ojelay has spent the past year jetting off around the globe, playing at glamorous events and entertaining tens of thousands of revellers worldwide.
From playing to 7,000 people on a Dubai beachfront in celebration of the UAE’s 40th anniversary to sold-out nightclubs in South Korea, plus his regular dates in his hometown, the 33-year-old DJ said 2011 had been an “incredible” year.
“The Dubai set, which was three hours, was just mind blowing,” he said.
“You can’t even see that many people from where I was, it was such an adrenaline rush and I think that keeps you going. It’s a feeling you can’t even describe.”
Stuart, from Finchfield, Wolverhampton, started DJing when he was just 15 and has worked his way up through the ranks to become one of the Midlands’ most prolific performers. He is also a columnist for the E&S Ticket supplement every Friday.
After years of hard work, he finally secured a meeting with the Ministry of Sound and was signed up in February.
“Before that, I was doing shows locally across the Midlands. But since then, it’s all taken off,” he said. “A lot of hard work has gone into getting where I am now. I’m lucky enough to be travelling the world while doing something I love.”
As well as continuing to play in the Midlands and across the UK, including London, Stuart did a tour of India in March, hitting Calcutta, Bangalore, Delhi, and Mumbai.
In June, he had a busy month, visiting Laganas in Zante, Marmaris in Turkey, Kuala Lumpar, Macau in China and Seoul in South Korea. Next year is promising to be just as crazy as he kicks off the New Year playing a party in Brazil.
