Hidden hedgehogs in Wolverhampton event

He has taken more than 30 balls of wool to make, but now Spike the knitted hedgehog is going on an outing to a city park as part of a new event.

Spike, who has taken around five months to knit, has been loaned by Wulfrun Wools and Crafts, based in the Wulfrun Centre.

He is the largest hedgehog on display at the store, surrounded by small hedgehogs – which take half a ball of wool to knit, large hedgehogs that take an entire ball and miniature hedgehogs that take just one stand of tinsel wool.

Now the hedgehogs are going to be hidden in and around Bantock House and Park on Sunday as part of their Dolls' House Fair.

The event will see the hedgehogs concealed in different locations around the historic house and park, with children set on a task to spot them.

If children manage to find all the hedgehogs, they're invited to go into the store and fill in a sheet detailing where they spotted them. If all answers are correct, they will win themselves a hedgehog.

Tracey Spilsbury, who runs the shop, said: "This is a great way of getting children involved and interested in knitting.

"A mini hedgehog only takes around 10 minutes to make, so children can easily have a go. The event is also a way of getting the children out and exploring Bantock, keeping their eyes peeled for the hedgehogs of course."

The store also runs one-to-one kitting tutorials on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays, for those looking to develop the skill.

Entrance to the Bantock Dolls' House Fair is £1 for adults and 50p for children.
