Year 6 pupils from Redhill Primary School visited Oak House Museum as part of the SPOOCS programme – The Society for the Prevention Of Occupancy of Castles and Stately Homes – a national writing scheme for key stage two pupils.

The Tudor Mansion is over 500 years old and reportedly haunted, becoming a regular venue for ghost hunters.

A DVD has been filmed at the house as part of the project, and the children had the chance to visit the venue which is providing writing stimulus.

The youngsters were taken on a tour of the mansion by guide John, and in each room told about the paranormal activities and ghostly goings-on.

These included the mystery of the moving salt cellar in the dining room, strange noises in the scullery, the maid who got her revenge on the evil lord of the manor upstairs in the bedroom, the mysterious holes and scratches in the parlour and the ghostly image of the jester who detaches his head and does football style 'keepie uppies' in the gallery.
