More than 100 Volkswagen Golf Mk5 owners will show off their cars at the gathering on May 21.

It has been set up by Nathan Moore, who is a member of the Mk5 Golf Owners' Club UK Facebook page, and Edward Wilson, who runs Survive The Scene, a group aimed at changing negative preconceptions about car meets.

Mr Wilson added: "We've only recently set up our group over the past few months, but we're looking at providing something to help people who don't already know a lot about cars.

"A lot of younger car enthusiasts are labelled as 'boy races' and there are a few, but on the whole we're not like that. I joined the Facebook group two-and-a-half years ago and I've made lots of friends from it.

"At the actual meeting, it's all about the people and there's a sense of community as we all love our cars, it's a different atmosphere to what people might expect.

"We've already got loads of interest from the group and we'll be at capacity, but people are still more than welcome to come along.

"We've got people coming from as far as Devon and Essex, so it's going to be a great mix of people."

They have chosen to raise money for Cancer Research having both had people they know suffer from the disease.

Nathan, aged 27, from Wednesfield, said: "This is really about a bunch of people meeting up who have the same love for their cars.

"The plans have gone from about 10 of us meeting up in Birmingham to a full-blown show where we have roughly 150 spaces for Mk5 owners.

"As the plans have got bigger we decided to turn it into a charity thing and raise money for Cancer Research."

The Mk5 is the fifth generation of the Volkswagen Golf and the successor to the Volkswagen Golf Mk4. It was replaced in 2009 by the Mk6.

Nathan, an HGV engineer, added: "They are affordable cars and they are highly modifiable. They are the sort of car you can chop and change parts from. You can do all sorts of stuff to them."

The meet takes place on May 21 at RAF Cosford. It will begin around 10am and run until around 4pm.
