Wolves Mayor Rock Fest: Mayor of Wolverhampton joins local bands to raise charity cash

The Mayor of Wolverhampton has said that 'the whole place was rocking' as a charity music event took place for the second year.

The Wolves Mayor Rock Fest was first launched by then-mayor Councillor Ian Brookfield, who teamed up with Facebook fan group Rockers Through the Ages to raise money for his charities. When current mayor Barry Findlay was asked if he would back staging the event again, he gave his support, adding it was a great night.

It took place on Saturday at The Slade Rooms on Broad Street, and showcased some of the best upcoming rock talent in Wolverhampton, including The Bad Flowers, Shyyne, Electus, Iconic Eye, The New Saints and Voodoo Sioux. Through tickets and an auction, with lots including bass strings from Judas Priest, the event raised money for the mayor's charities – the MS Therapy Centre in Tettenhall, the Samaritans and Help for Heroes.

Councillor Findlay said: "

Although it is not typically my scene, I was a fan of Thin Lizzy and also Wishbone Ash, it's great to see local talent and to raise money."
