Dudley Town Hall overhaul could see more shows at venue

An overhaul of a town hall could see more shows added to the bill in a bid to make the venue more 'viable', it has been revealed.

The revamp of Dudley Town Hall would also see a new kitchen and conference area added to make it 'more attractive'.

It comes as council bosses refused to rule out the possibility of it being taken out of their hands in the future.

Councillor Khurshid Ahmed, cabinet member for leisure, said he hoped that work would bring more people to the town.

He said: "It has always been my ambition to get as much night time economy as well as day time in Dudley.

"The town hall needs to be playing its part in this and we want to bring more people to the town to enjoy it more.

"At this stage it would be all in-house managed but the way I view it is that there is nothing ruled in or nothing ruled out for the future.

"But that is a long way away at the moment."

Dudley Town Hall, built in 1928, is the largest venue in the borough and lends itself to concerts, shows, dances, fashion shows, product launches, and exhibitions.

Council documents state: "As the re-use of the former museum brings new footfall to the location, use of the town hall as overspill would be useful providing problems with the kitchen and bar can be addressed."
