The news comes as high winds have resulted in lane closures on the M6, Wolverhampton's Queen Square being closed due to falling debris and weather warnings across the Midlands.

Speaking about their decision to close, Dudley Zoo manager Matt Lewis said: "We've been closely monitoring the weather overnight and with high wind speeds expected over the next few hours we've taken the decision to remain closed today for animal and public safety.

"Our exotic animal collection will be kept in their internal dens and we'll be keeping a close eye on the trees around the 40-acre ancient wooded site.

"We're sorry for any inconvenience and aim to re-open as normal tomorrow, but please keep an eye on the zoo's website and social media sites for any further updates."

West Midland Safari Park, meanwhile, has been forced to close 'for the safety of guests'.

The attraction announced the news on social media, saying: "Due to adverse weather conditions, our Adventure Theme Park will be closed today for the safety of our guests.

"This will mean there will be no access to the African Village or the Burger Co. restaurant located within the Theme Park.

"The Safari drive-through and Discovery Trail are currently open as normal.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

"If you would like to discuss this further with a member of our team, please contact us on 01299 402114 or email info@wmsp.co.uk"

Black Country Living Museum put the following out on Twitter: "Due to potentially dangerous high winds, we will be closed today.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused and hope to re-open tomorrow."
