Following her run as The Lazy Empress in the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre's pantomime of Aladdin, local comedienne and YouTube star Doreen Tipton became a guest lecturer for the afternoon as part of the Wolverhampton Literary Festival.

Taking centre stage in the University of Wolverhampton's main lecture theatre donning a graduation cap and gown, Doreen took the audience on a journey of her literary loves throughout the years and inducted her favourite authors into her hall of fame.

Tickled by Doreen's unique sense of humour throughout, the audience were in fits of laughter for the entirety of the performance, with no lull in the pace of the show.

The performance was fragmented with short video segments such as her take on Winnie the Pooh and Shakespeare's Macbeth, which demonstrated the thought and care that had gone into this wonderful show.

The use of local references allowed for the performance to have much more credibility and believability coupled with excellent character and warmth.

A highly entertaining segment on Doreen's literary education from the toilet walls of her local pub was certainly a highlight as well as her reflection on the romantic writing of prolific Birmingham writer Barbara Cartland.

Doreen also took the opportunity to promote her own autobiography entitled From Rug Rats to Riches by reading various snippets and anecdotes.

This show was certainly not for children with strong language and adult themes throughout.

It's a credit to Doreen and her team to have come up with such an innovative and different performance that strays away from the typical stand up event that could have occurred and embrace the culture of the local area.

It's also notable that Doreen was performing this show five times over the course of the day, which is no mean feat in anyone's books.

Doreen ended the event with a Q&A and a meet and greet.
