Local Murder (The Maroon Cortina) was penned by Peter Whalley, who has 601 episodes of the popular soap credited to him dating back to 1979.

It is being performed by the Wordsley Amateur Dramatic Society, which dates back even further, having first been set up in 1924.

Publicity officer for the society, Peter Goldsmith said: "The play is set in Lancashire and is a domestic thriller which centres upon 18-year-old Alan.

"He has been accused of murdering the neighbour's daughter, and must prove his innocence." Peter is taking on a directorial role for the first time after 13 years with the society.

The play is at Kingswinford Methodist Church, on Stream Road, at 7.30pm from February 1, to February 4.

Tickets are £7 and concessions £6 via 01384 353662. Society details via www.wordsleyamdram.com
