Cinderella, Prince Charming and the Fairy Godmother will take to the stage as the curtain goes up on a Cannock pantomime.

While they are all characters the audience can expect in the pantomime Cinderella, viewers will also see a real miniature Shetland pony on stage.

That is what viewers will see when the Cinderella production is performed by Cannock Chase Drama Society.

While other productions use the 'two people under a horse costume' device, the society has enrolled the animal, called Goliath, to pull the carriage at the show from January 26 to 29.

It takes place at the Prince of Wales Theatre in Cannock, and organisers are hopeful they will come close to selling out the 400 tickets for each of the production's six shows.

Director and the Fairy Godmother, Julie Hunter, said: "The miniature Shetland pony is a special guest appearance for this year – he will making the transformation scene at the end of the play very magical."
