Historic Staffordshire pub up for sale
New owners are being sought to run a historic Staffordshire pub with the business going up for sale on Rightmove.
The Ivy House in Stafford Road, Newtown, near Great Wyrley, dates back to the mid-19th century and used to serve local coal miners and canal workers.
The business is up for sale for £79,995. The pub has won four Pub of the Year awards from the Campaign For Real Ale.
It has also received a Certificate of Excellence from Trip Advisor where it is was rated as a four-and-a-half-star venue. It currently employs 25 people and generates around £480,000 in turnover every year. There is nine years left of the lease.
Father-of-five Martin Cregeen, aged 58, who has run the pub with his wife Hilary, for the past 12 years, said: "We are getting to the age where we are starting to slow down a bit.
"We had a good deal last year and consequently it is now a nice profitable business and the time is right to sell." The listing for The Ivy House on Rightmove states: "The current owners purchased the business in 2004 and have since established a food-led business offering quality, locally sourced, home cooked food and drinks to a loyal, repeat and desirable clientele.
"The business is currently operated by the owners themselves assisted by three full and circa 22 part-time members of staff.
"Sitting proudly at the centre of the local community the business has been recognised with a Trip Advisor certificate of excellence and has been a Camra Pub of the Year award winner on no less than four occasions. New owners could continue to operate the business using the same highly successful formula, or they may wish to put their own stamp on the business."
