The posters, which include exhibitions on Elvis Presley, UFOs and dinosaurs, were discovered as part of a huge plan to move the collections to the Archive building. They will now be added to the archives records for people to view as a snapshot of Dudley's history.

Councillor Khurshid Ahmed, cabinet member for planning and economic development, said: "These posters are quite a find and show some of the fantastic exhibitions we provide at our museums.

"I am also pleased they will be formally handed to the archives staff for safe keeping and for future generations to see.

"The move to the Archives building is an exciting challenge and when complete will allow us to continue celebrating the fascinating history and heritage that this borough has to offer."

The current building will close its doors on December 22 when staff will start packing up the collections which span hundreds of years of history in the borough.

The collections will be moved to the new site from early next year alongside work on the layout at the Archives to accommodate the new exhibitions.

The new museum will be open in the summer next year.

It will have improved parking for visitors and school trips as well as better access for people with disabilities.

Earlier this year Dudley Council revealed the museum was to be closed down as a result of crippling financial cuts.

But following a petition by more than 4,000 people hoping to save the attraction, a scheme was unveiled to move the museum's collections to the Archives building.
