Sparkle Into A Bloxwich Christmas saw children queue up for more than half an hour to meet Santa and tell him what they would like for Christmas. And children who had been good throughout the year were able to collect a free gift from him.

The event was organised by Walsall Council, Bloxwich Phoenix Rotary Club and the Bloxwich Business Partnership CIC and held in Bloxwich Park. Mayor of Walsall Councillor Kath Phillips said: "It was fantastic. There were lots of people there and I bought a fantastic Christmas cake. There is always good Christmas cake there.

"It was good because the weather was good and that always helps. The queue for Father Christmas – I have not seen a queue like that before.

"I was astonished by it. I was not in the queue myself. I cheated and went to the front to see him. There were quite a few fair rides and there were donkeys and jerk chicken.

"Oh, that was lovely – the smells wafting by."

Among other events around Walsall this week – a Christmas tree festival will be held at Aldridge Methodist Church on Friday and Saturday from 11am until 6pm and on Sunday from midday until 4pm.

In addition, the Light Up a Life Christmas service will be held at Aldridge Shopping Centre on Saturday at 4pm. A Wonderful Willenhall Christmas will also be held in theMarket Place on Saturday from 10am.
