More than 1,500 wooden pallets will be used to build the bonfire, while 2km of fuse wire will enable organisers to spark the fireworks display, which draws in around 20,000 people every year.

The event marks Dudley Council's 40th bonfire and fireworks display.

Fireworks will be released to the sound of a big-hitting soundtrack featuring some of the greatest artists of the last 40 years, including Michael Jackson, Davie Bowie, Queen, Coldplay and Adele.

More than three kilometres of temporary fencing and enough temporary lighting to light up four kilometres of motorway are also installed at the event every year. Gates will open at 4.30pm and Heart FM will be entertaining the crowd from 6.30pm.

The bonfire will be lit at 7.45pm, with the fireworks starting at 8.30pm. Thomas Jones' giant funfair and seasonal refreshments will also be on offer. Councillor Khurshid Ahmed, said: "We're really excited about celebrating 40 years of Dudley Council's bonfire and fireworks event .

"It's great that people who remember going as children themselves are now taking their children and grandchildren to enjoy the fun."

Tickets are £9 for adults and £4.50 for juniors and senior citizens, while under-5s are free.

A family ticket for two adults and two children is £23 and car parking is £3. A free bus service is available from Dudley, Coseley, Sedgley, Quarry Bank, Brierley Hill, Halesowen and Stourbridge.
