Bridgnorth Ukulele buskers raise charity cash

A busking ukulele band has raised more than £1,000 for charity.

Bridgnorth Ukulele Band has raised more than £20,000 in total for Cancer Research UK over five years. About 25 players of all ages were led by Barrie Taylor and Janine Harley as they played for four and a half hours in Bridgnorth High Street for charity on Sunday.

The band raised £1,073 which takes the total raised for Cancer Research UK to more than £20,000 in five years plus thousands more for other national and local charities.

The ukulele band has played festivals, carnivals, fetes, fundraisers, street parties, private parties – everywhere from market halls to stately homes.

The band meets every Wednesday from 7pm to 10pm at the All Forces Club, Bridge Street, Bridgnorth WV15 6AF.

Beginners classes run from 7pm to 8pm, intermediates run from 8.10pm to 9pm and advanced Jam Session if from 9.10pm to 10pm.

There is a £2 charge per player per evening.

Everyone is welcome at any or all of the sessions every week and songs will be graded, getting progressively more challenging during the evening.

Ukuleles are free to borrow on the night or to buy at £20 each, and tuners at £5 each.
