Celebrations planned as Wolverhampton's 'Man on the Oss' turns 150

Wolverhampton is celebrating the 150th year of its iconic 'Man on the Oss' statue with a rededication of the landmark next month.

It is part of a programme of events to commemorate the erection of the Prince Albert statue was officially launched last week by the Mayor and town crier.

The Queen Square landmark, better known locally as the 'Man on the Oss', was unveiled in the city by Queen Victoria on November 30, 1866.

As part of the re-dedication of the statue on November 23 a new plaque will be installed.

A week later, there will be a parade by the military and West Midlands Fire Service that will go through the city centre.

There will also be performances by the Central Youth Theatre and a special toast at 1.50pm on the day where public will be invited to raise a glass to Victoria, Albert, and the city of Wolverhampton.

There will also be a multi-faith service of celebration at St Peter's Church and a dinner for the Mayor's community award winners.
