Around 780 people took part in the Katharine House Hospice 10k and 5k runs through the Stafford heritage site on Sunday morning.

They were treated to glorious sunshine as they made their way around the grounds while scores of friends and relatives lined up along the route and the finish line to cheer them on.

The main 10k event saw a range of people taking part from the casual runners to those looking to beat their personal best times.

While the 5k fun run once again proved popular with people just looking to be a part of the occasion.

And this year featured the usual array of colourful attire with participants wearing everything from traditional running gear to superhero costumes.

Rugeley trio Paul Starnge his wife Eleanor and daughter-in-law Natalie were among those who caught the eye with vibrant Batman, Superwoman and Bat Girl costumes.

While Stafford mother and daughter team Jill and Amy Matby joined in in the superhero frolics donning their own Bat Girl and Cat Woman inspired getups.

Last year's event raised a whopping £20,000 for the Weston Road based-hospice which provides palliative and end of life care for people all over Staffordshire.

And the money generated this year could top that amount with a record number of runners taking part.

Within hours of the finish organisers posted pictures and results online sharing them through the Katharine House Facebook page where people commented to say how well-ran the event was.

Paul Phillips said: "Great run really well organised, thank you to all the volunteers that made the event so good."

While Lee Edgington made reference to some of the more hilly parts of the Shugborough course. He said: "Ace event, great cause, and course... (apart from someone sticking Mount Everest half way round)."

A hospice spokeswoman added: "Thank you so much to everyone who came along. This year was a record - 780 runners."

The event has been going from a number of years now and Stafford Railway Building Society sponsored were once again the generous sponsors for the seventh time in a row.
