The Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust have launched a volunteer award scheme for museums in the West Midlands region, through their West Midlands Development Programme, funded by Arts Council England. The West Midlands Volunteer Awards have been created to recognise and reward the invaluable role and significant contribution made by volunteers to the museums in the region.

The Black Country Living Museum's community engagement group have been shortlisted in the 'Working Together' category. The awards aim to highlight the energy, enthusiasm and expertise volunteers bring to all areas of museum life, and the thousands of hours of support they give every year.

They are also a chance for everyone to hear their stories and to acknowledge their achievements.

Karen Davies, West Midlands museum development programme manager said: "We are delighted to have received such high quality nominations for the first Awards.

"Volunteers are the backbone of many museums and it is fitting that their contribution is being acknowledged through the awards."
