The film is based on Ernest Cline's award-winning 2011 book of the same name, a dystopian science fiction novel.
Buildings in the area have been renamed to feature on the set. Telephone House has been renamed 'Columbus High School', while the St John Ambulance building, which is Art Deco, has become a building for the US Postal Service.
