Registration for Staffordshire's hugely popular Ironman event has opened for next year.

In its first two years Ironman 70.3 has sold out so those wanting to tackle the course are being advised to register early for the event on Sunday, June 18, 2017.

The event will see competitors complete a 1.2-mile swim, 56 miles on a bike and half marathon, starting at Chasewater, passing through Cannock Chase before culminating at the historic Shugborough Estate.

There is normally space for some 2,000 competitors. Staffordshire county councillor Mark Winnington said: "After a hugely successful Olympic Games for Staffordshire with Adam Peaty and Joe Clarke leading the gold rush for Team GB, we expect even more people to be inspired by their sporting success and sign up for Ironman in 2017."
