Walsall Council has introduced the Health Switch awards, which is aimed at recognising take-aways which look at simple ways to offer a healthier choice of food to residents.

One of the first shops to get the award is Eatso, a health food restaurant, on High Street, Pelsall.

Sara Birch, owner of Eatso, said: "The awards have been a fantastic boost to our business. Eatso already provides a healthy menu, but the environmental health team came in and really helped us raise our game, from helping us work out how many portions of your five a day our meals contain to offering suggestions for healthier pudding choices."

Councillor Julie Fitzpatrick, portfolio holder for community, leisure and culture,

said: "We are aiming to broaden the appeal of healthier food to consumers who are becoming increasingly health conscious."

Details on the awards are available via Walsall Environmental Health Team on 01922 653010
