Money was raised by the DMS Heart of England Music Academy, based in Knowle, during a concert in October.

Academy Principal Leigh Perry, who joined Tavers to present the cheque, said: "I'm a huge supporter of cancer and animal charities and delighted to be able to help such an amazing animal facility who's staff work tirelessly to give our K9 friends the love and care needed whilst helping to rehome them."

Simon Price, CEO of Birmingham Dogs Home, said they were delighted with the support from DMS to help stray and abandoned dogs.

"We cannot thank Leigh and team enough for the incredible hard work that went into organising such an amazing concert last year," he said.

"We're very fortunate to have the support again from DMS in 2017 and proud to be a part of such a prestigious event."

The academy is run by Ms Perry and a team of qualified and experienced teachers, many of whom have studied at Birmingham's Conservatoire and performed as concert musicians or in working bands.
