The 'Rain or Shine' theatre company are set to delight family audiences this summer with their production of Shakespeare's magical and hilarious masterpiece at Severn Valley Country Park, Alveley, on August 12 from 7.30pm.

With well-loved characters such as Bottom and Puck, 'Rain or Shine' invite audiences into the intoxicating dream world of fairy queen and king, Titania and Oberon. This fast-paced jaunt through the Bard's best loved comedy is filled with magic and mischief, inspired by warm nights, young love and the Elizabethan carnival atmosphere.

The comedy, written by William Shakespeare between 1590 and 1597, portrays the events surrounding the marriage of Theseus, the Duke of Athens, to Hippolyta. The play features the adventures of four young Athenian lovers and a group of six amateur actors called the mechanicals, who are controlled and manipulated by the fairies who inhabit the forest in which most of the play is set. The play is one of Shakespeare's most popular works for the stage and is widely performed across the world.

The 'Rain or Shine' production is suitable for all ages and is aimed at bringing classical theatre into the heart of local communities as the company travel across the UK during from Devon to Northumberland, and Wales to Norfolk, visiting some of the country's most picturesque castles, stately homes and gardens along the way. Audiences are invited to bring along low-backed seating or rugs, and a picnic to maximise their enjoyment of the al fresco performances.
