In its 216th year, people from across the county and beyond took advantage of the half term break by descending on the County Showground, near Stafford, for the event.

Visitors saw a host of different shows and activities on the first day including a horse shows in the main ring while Staffordshire Young Farmers Club took part in a world record milkshake attempt in the afternoon.

The shake-it up challenge took place in the Young Farmers marquee next to the club's offices on the County Showground.

The milkshake was freshly made live with a total of 911 litres of locally sourced milk, donated by Wells Farm Dairy; 50 litres of strawberry ice-cream from Red Lion Ice-cream and a selection of summer fruit berries.

The members wanted to break a Guinness World Record this year to help raise the profile of Staffordshire YFC.

Staffordshire YFC County Chairman Emma Stubbs said: "This record attempt highlights how delicious a milk drink can be and supports the dairy industry, which is currently facing many challenges.

"The idea of the creating the world's largest milkshake seemed perfect and we are so pleased with how much support we have already received from local companies."

It has also been revealed that livestock entries for this years show hit a record number.

The event, which returns to the County Showground today for its second and final day, has seen a particularly significant increase in sheep and pigs – while there was a three fold increase for Boer goat entries. Richard Williams, chief executive of Staffordshire and Birmingham Agricultural Society, which organises the event, said the show attracted more than 1,000 agricultural livestock entries and more than 1,500 horse and pony entries in total.

World famous motorcyclists as young as five-years-old entertained the crowds in the main ring yesterday as they get set to take to the stage for a second time today.

In total, the Imps motorcycle display team will have thrilled more than 70,000 people during the two day event.

Carol Taylor, from Brewood, who attended the show with her two dogs, said: "I came along with my friend Diane and Mick and the two golden retrievers Missy and William.

"We went to the dog show where William got placed and other than that we came for a nice day out and a walk round.

"We've got horses ourselves so we went to see the horses. It's all about having a nice day out and looking at all the stands.

"It doesn't matter what the weather is like you still enjoy it. The Staffordshire County Show is a lovely show to come to."

Gordon Macdonald, who travelled down to the show from Kettering to meet with his friend, added: "I love county fairs and wandering around and enjoying the day out.

"I just love savouring the atmosphere and taking it all in. It's great to see it busy as well; it seems it has been very well attended."

Anyone who missed yesterday's show can enjoy the majority of the activities today.
