The City Arts Experience, featuring works by graduates from the University of Wolverhampton, was launched on Wednesday after taking around three months to complete.

The exhibition details the history of the city chronologically, mapping the changes and developments in both its history and art.

The theme was the city's motto, 'Out of darkness cometh light' and was created to celebrate the on-going developments at the Mander Centre.

Robert Gough, retail manager at the centre said: "This exhibition is really about giving a nod to our heritage and looking forward to the future.

"It's amazing that in doing this project we were able to discover so much about our city and I see kids in here everyday learning something new about their city.

"The city has a really rich heritage both artistically and historically and this exhibition really represents that.

The exhibition, which showed how significant figures in the city's history impacted on trade, production and art, was created by artists Jo Burgess and Liz Grimshaw.

The pair, who have completed BA honours degrees in arts subjects at the University of Wolverhampton, put the exhibition together through delving into the Wolverhampton archives, as well as the archives of the Express and Star.

The event is one of several to take place throughout the year as developments in the Mander Centre continue.
