Young ladies aged from aged 16 to 26 took part in auditions at the Copthorne Hotel in Brierley Hill.

They were given hourly slots and the chance to hear all about the competition, meet with the judges, have their photos taken and take part in catwalk coaching.

The finals of Miss Black Country will take place on May 22 and the winner will then be entered into the Miss England finals in July.

Those who make it through to the contest will raise charity money for Beauty with a Purpose.

Present at the event, was current Miss Black Country Jade Secker, aged 24 from Wombourne. She said: "The auditions were great fun, it was lovely to meet the girls.

"The competition will be tough this year and I'm hoping we can find a charitable, outgoing, talented young lady to be the next ambassador for the Black Country.

"I have had such an incredible year and been able to do the most wonderful things with my title.

"From helping on Black Country Day to walking out the players at Wolverhampton FC, I'm so looking forward to seeing who will follow on this title and make a real difference in the Black Country."

Miss England was founded in 1928 and is the only competition in the country to send its 'Miss England' winner to the Miss World Beauty pageant.

Last year the West Midlands raised over £10,000 for local charities and beyond, and being a regional winner involves being an ambassador of your city and area.

Rachael Barker, regional director of Miss England, said: "It is such an amazing opportunity to come along and see what the competition is all about. The auditions are a friendly and informal way to meet myself and the judges and hear about the competition."
