The story by city-born sisters Caitlin and Caroline Moran is based on their own upbringing as home-schooled siblings in Enville Road, Warstones.

Imogen Fox, from Claregate, had auditioned for the part of the youngest sibling Mariah ahead of the first series but was told they needed a younger-looking actress.

Two years later, the eight-year-old was delighted to be invited back to play the role of 'Jasmine' in the new series' fifth episode, to air on March 30.

In November last year she travelled to Manchester for two days in front of the cameras – and mother Julie said she loved the entire experience.

"She absolutely loved filming, she loved every minute," Mrs Fox explained.

"Everyone there was really welcoming from other members of the cast to the directors and crew.

"Obviously there are a few children in the programme and they really are great in looking after them. She did not want to leave when it came to the end of filming."

The TV role is the first for Imogen, a pupil at St Christopher's Catholic Primary School in Codsall, and on Saturdays she attends the Pauline Quirke Academy, Wolverhampton. Mrs Fox, aged 40, said she could not reveal too much about her daughter's role but that Jasmine was not related to any of the main characters.

She added: "I chaperoned Imogen the whole time during filming. I saw everything for myself and I am incredibly proud. She seems to just take everything in her stride. She strolled in and you can see the smile on her face from start to finish."

The six-part second series begins on Channel 4 tonight at 10pm.
