He was known for his work on programmes including HomeTime. The Hartshill resident was also a popular DJ at a number of Staffordshire nightclubs. In more recent years, he ran K.Dee.K Danceworks in Stoke with his husband, Kieran Kelly.

The dance school, which operates out of the Rialto Ballroom in Stoke-on-Trent, announced on Saturday that it would be closed for the day due to the bereavement.

Stafford FM issued a statement on Facebook after learning of Gerry's death.

It said: "Gerry presented HomeTime on Stafford FM prior to our FM launch and will be sadly missed. He was a familiar radio personality in the area having presented shows for over 20 years on Signal Radio. He was a great friend and a big supporter of Stafford FM, and we'd like to show our appreciation for all of his hard work."
