Black Country Touring (BCT) works with people from Wolverhampton, Dudley, Sandwell and Walsall to put on shows in schools, community centres, libraries and art galleries.

They have been awarded £28,000 for their Tongue Tied & Twisted project, which transforms the traditional folklore stories of Asian elders into theatre.

Vanessa Harbar, head of the Heritage Lottery Fund West Midlands, said: "This exciting intergenerational project will make a significant contribution to the local community by preserving and sharing cultural traditions.

"This investment will give local people the opportunity to engage with creative story-telling projects, whilst also recognising and valuing the unique contribution of oral history in local cultural heritage."

International storyteller Peter Chand will perform as part of the project, preserving the mythical stories for future generations.

He said that the dying of an Asian elder is like "a library burning down", with their stories being lost forever.

This new funding means that these stories will now become a big part of the BCT's next production, repeating them for the audience, who can then tell them again themselves to their friends and family.
