The Deltic Group, the UK's largest clubs and bar operator, has shown interest in taking over Gatecrasher, in Broad Street.

The club, which welcomes up to 2,400 revellers a night, had its licence revoked after an alleged stabbing in November and claims of a violent brawl involving security staff.

Jo Mathers, speaking on behalf of the Deltic Group, said: "We are in discussions about the former Gatecrasher club. But a deal is yet to be finalised."

Gatecrasher had its licence temporarily suspended after claims violence broke out on the weekend of October 31 and November 1. Birmingham councillors formally revoked the licence in November.
