DJs Sara and Annie Mac join Jarvis as music stars hit city for awards night

Perfect your song-writing skills with Jarvis Cocker and Guy Garvey or pick up top DJ tips from Annie Mac – these are some of the biggest names in music who will be sharing their insider knowledge in Birmingham next week.

The stars will be opening up during a series of free workshops at venues across the city ahead of the BBC Music Awards at the Genting Arena on Thursday.

There will also be musical showcases introducing some of the best up and coming performers and groups. Tomorrow Radio 2's Sara Cox will present Women in Music from Birmingham Ormiston Academy at 1pm.

She will be discussing the role women play in the music industry with rapper, singer and producer Lady Leshurr, Island Records' Annie Christensen and artist manager Margherita Visconti. The Asian Network's Yasser Ranjha will be at The Oobleck from 8pm tomorrow to host the first BBC Music Introducing session of the week showcasing DJ producer Bambooclart, the multi-talented Bambi Bains and singer/songwriter Vaz.

Birmingham: The Biz and the Buzz will be at the same venue from 1pm on Sunday hosted by Radio WM's Jack Parker and Jade Matthews.

The focus will be on how to get involved in the local scene, music promotion in Birmingham, how to go about crowd-funding, and making a success of local music venues.

BBC Radio 3 presenters Lopa Kothari, Kevin LeGendre and Georgia Mann will host an evening celebrating the breadth of music with new artists in classical, world and jazz on Sunday at the CBSO Centre from 8pm while the Art of Songwriting will run from 2pm at the Glee Club on Monday.

BBC Radio 6 Music's Matt Everitt will be joined by pop star and song writer Terry Hall, Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker, Guy Garvey of Elbow and Huey Morgan from the Fun Lovin' Criminals. Among the other highlights, The Hare and Hounds will be the venue for a new music showcase with rapper Lady Sanity, folk outfit Boat to Row and five piece band Hoopla Blue at 8pm on Monday.

Radio 1's Annie Mac will be at the CBSO Centre from 1pm on Tuesday to share the memorable moments of her career.
