Sir Lenny Henry to return to Dudley

Published

Sir Lenny Henry will be in Dudley next week to unveil his MOBO Awards paving stone in his hometown.

The MOBO Paving The Way award, which aims to celebrate musical trailblazers and influential people, was presented to Sir Lenny during a ceremony earlier this month.

Recipients of the award are honoured with a permanent paving stone laid in a place that has shaped them.

The idea of the stone is to shine light on their achievements and inspire generations to come.

Sir Lenny has chosen for his paving stone to be laid at Buffery Park, which is near the house where he grew up. It will be unveiled on December 9.

The actor had the audience on its feet during his award acceptance speech at the ceremony in Leeds as he said he 'could only have got here from standing on the shoulders of giants'.

He went on to name check famous faces – from Bob Marley to Michael Jackson – and 'that bloke from the Halifax advert' while accepting his award.

Speaking about receiving the accolade, he said: "It's an honour to say you've paved the way for people because my career isn't over. I don't feel like anything's finished yet. It's a huge honour. I'm very, very happy. It's wonderful."
