Harry Enfield and Paul Whitehouse take to the stage in Wolverhampton

Two staples of British comedy were reunited on stage at Wolverhampton's Civic Hall as Harry Enfield and Paul Whitehouse took fans on a trip down memory lane.

Harry and Paul are back on tour to celebrate 25 years since they first started working together. Kevin the teenager, the Old Gits and Loadsamoney were just of the famous characters making a return.

Their re-appearance brought raucous laughter from the Civic Hall crowd but you got the feeling that would have been the case if Harry and Paul had just stood there and pulled faces – which for part of the night they did.

Enfield and Whitehouse are among comedy royalty in this country, whose characters introduced us to catchphrases that are still used today, perhaps by some without knowing it.

To bring characters up to date, Loadsamoney was given an iPhone and Kevin complained to his parents that it's Jay 'Zee' and not Jay 'Zed'.

It was Harry and Paul, 25 years on, one last hurrah. If there was one thing Harry and Paul have never been afraid to do, it's to push what they can get away with to the limit and it was no different here. If there were staunch defenders of political correctness among the audience it was time to look away.

Moving on from lashings of playful sexism, Paul Whitehouse's fabulous Michael Caine impersonation – where he becomes Michael Paine, the nosey neighbour and spies on people living in Batman's building – also had me in stitches, though maybe that says more about my sense of humour.

There were undoubtedly funny moments, and the chance to see two legends of British comedy was an honour in itself.

After three hours, the audience certainly wasn't left wanting more.
